Health Services and Education Best Practices: 

The following are best practices or regulatory standards used to evaluate your school’s health services and health education in the Healthy Champions Assessment 

  • Schools have at least one school nurse for every 1500 students. 
  • Schools share BMI Screening Results with caregivers through direct and indirect methods. 
  • Schools conduct advanced coordination of care for students by utilizing school-based interdisciplinary teams.  
  • Standards-based health education is provided as a routine part of curriculum to some students or grades.  
  • Healthy practices (i.e., hand washing before meals, physical activity breaks, mindfulness moments or positive morning announcements) are promoted in classrooms and daily routines. 
  • Schools provide opportunities for school nurses to pursue professional development (i.e., joining professional associations, travel to conferences, funding support for continuing education credits.
