Counseling and Psychological Services Best Practices:
The following are best practices or regulatory standards used to evaluate your school’s counseling and psychological services in the Healthy Champions Assessment.
- All students participate in prevention-based activities (i.e., seminars, mental health education curriculum, mental health week, or information sent home).
- Schools conduct mental health screenings at regular intervals – annual or biannually.
- Schools use early intervention techniques (i.e., small group meetings, motivational interviewing, problem-solving coaching, mentoring, or classroom support).
- Psychological Counseling is provided to all students.
- Mental health or suicide prevention training is provided to some non-licensed professionals (i.e., classroom teachers, support staff, food service, bus-drivers, etc.).
